24 Jan 12 days of celebration in Tarragona in Carnival
Music, parades, comparsas, costumes, contests, charanga, hullabaloo…and much celebration is what Tarragona proposes from February 2nd to 13rd to celebrate Carnival and the reign of Majesty King Carnestoltes. Nearly a hundred events are planned and the novelty of this edition is the presence of them in the Mercat Central, with various playful proposals such as, among others, the cooking contest “Today I cook”, and at the Tarragona Theater, with a show of the company The Chanclettes. All this, without forgetting more classic acts, such as the Gold Costume, the Handicraft Parade or the Lucimiento Parade.
From the carnival agenda highlights on Tuesday 6th, day in which the Plaza de la Font, seat of the town hall, will be the scene of the Bastiment de la Bota, which will be burned a week later as the closing of the Carnival. A day later, King Carnestoltes will arrive with its retinue, and on Thursday, the most multitudinous traditional act is celebrated with Golden Costume, a fun parade of comparsas.
The carnival ends on Monday 12th, with the Judgment to the Carnival King and on Tuesday the 13th of February with the “duel”, which will recover the fire in its journey from Plaza de las Cols to Plaza de la Font; the “burial” of itss Majesty and the burning of Ninot, Ninota and Boot.
