15 Apr Cathedral Basilica of San Martiño in Ourense

It is one of the treasures of the city and one of the main axes of the historic center of Ourense, which began to be built in the 12th century and which houses different styles (Romanesque, Gothic, Renaissance, Baroque, Neoclassical and current). It is considered BIC (Well of Cultural Interest), one of the great Romanesque temples of Spain and one of the oldest of Galicia.

In its beginnings, the building was composed of three naves, which have simple ribbed vaults and pointed arches that sit on cruciform pillars with semicolumnas attached. The spectacular Gothic dome on the cruise ship was built between 1499 and 1505.

It has three well-preserved Romanesque doors and the western entrance, the main one, known as Portico del paraíso, reproduces in small scale the Portico de la Gloria of the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela.

The Chapel of the Holy Christ, the Great Chapel and the Portico of Paradise deserve to be highlighted.
