21 Oct Roman Amphitheatre in Tarragona
On the coast of Tarragona stands the Tarraco Amphitheatre, a Roman amphitheater that bears being part of the landscape of the city from the second century. A.D.
The amphitheater was the arena for gladiators fights and different shows of those time. Its location on the Mediterranean was right for it to be close to the people of the city and at the same time, close to the ships coming into port with passengers, slaves, animals and goods.
In the center of the amphitheater remains of an ancient S.VI Visigoth basilica and a twelfth century Romanesque-Gothic church is preserved. Under the sand, they lie the graves where through pulley rose to the arena the wild beasts and the gladiators.
