18 Dec Light up your Christmas in Madrid
On these dates, the capital of Spain offers us an infinity of plans to make this Christmas unforgettable and full of moments if we decide to enjoy it in this city.
To comfortably tour the city and enjoy the Christmas atmosphere, Madrid offers a Christmas Bus, Naviluz, a double-decker bus with departure and arrival at the Plaza de Colón. This bus runs through the main streets of downtown Madrid and allows you to enjoy the Christmas lights.
Also worth mentioning this year is the acclaimed Harry Potter exhibition, since Madrid will be the only Spanish city within the European tour of the exhibition and this will be the first time that the exhibition will be enjoyed in Spanish. Harry Potter: The Exhibition is a traveling exhibition of more than 1,400 square meters, in which visitors can admire in the first person hundreds of objects and artifacts used in the films of the famous apprentice magician and enjoy the scenarios inspired by the sets of the filmography.
On the other hand, you have to visit the famous and typical Christmas Market of the Plaza Mayor, with more than 100 booths. In its colorful booths, citizens and tourists find all kinds of Bethlehem figurines, Christmas musical instruments, toys and joke items.
One of the obligatory dates at Christmas in Madrid is the New Year’s Eve celebrations that take place in the emblematic Puerta del Sol, which becomes the epicenter of New Year’s Eve throughout the country. Thousands of people arriving from all over, fill the square every December 31st, to receive the new year and eat the grapes of luck to the sound of the twelve strokes that mark the clock of the Royal Mail House. As a novelty, this year the Community of Madrid will illuminate this building, headquarters of the municipal government, and will offer a fireworks and confetti show immediately after the bells.
