Palencia, in the inland of Spain but almost touching the Cantabrian sea, is a perfect alternative to the typical beach holidays. It is also a city with an incredible hidden beauty, in which live those kind of moments to remember your whole life.
The San Antolin popular festivity (29th August – 3th September) is the perfect moment to visit the city. Palencia is full of life, its streets and citizens vibrates with the parades and processions … But the typical “desfiles de peñas” is the most loved and enjoyed tradition for the youngsters. The programme doesn’t end there, the museums and galeries prepare every year a special offer full of exhibits; the firework shows for all audiences, contests and concerts fill out the programme. But the main course comes with the great Parade of the 2nd September, when every single neighbour get out into de streets to accompany the “gigantes y cabezudos” in its journey to the Cathedral. Inside of it the ceremony continues with a mass and it ends with the rite of drinking the water from the crypte well: the crowing touch of this festivity.
